UN court indicts four Hezbollah members in Hariri car bomb assasination The UN's Special Tribunal for Lebanon has issued indictments for four Hezbollah members, accusing them of assassinating Lebanon's former prime minister, Rafiq Hariri, in a car bomb attack in 2005. As news of the indictments was released, security in Lebanon was tightened, and names of the men indicted were released as: Assad Sabra, Hassan Issa, Salim Ayachhe and Moustaf Badredine -- all of which are senior members of the Shia group Hezbollah. Hezbollah and its supporters -- which mostly include half of Lebanon's Druze and Christians -- had been working hard to prevent the previous government led by Saad Hariri to withdraw its financial support for the tribunal. Hezbollah and its allies then quit the cabinet in January, collapsing the unity government, once it became clear Saad Hariri would not agree to abandon the tribunal. Headlines

Greece braces for second austerity vote
Top story: A day after narrowly passing a series of austerity measures, Greek parliamentarians will vote again on legislation to implement the plan meant to pull Greece back from the brink of fiscal disaster. Athens was quiet on Thursday, after being the scene of massive protests earlier in the week that at times turned violence. Greece's government has expressed confidence that the measure will pass. But even if it does, economists have voiced fears that the budget cuts will push Greece even deeper into a recession, complicating its attempts to pay back its debt. "Greece is basically being bribed not to default," said former IMF chief economist Kenneth Rogoff. "But as long as Greece doesn't grow briskly for a sustained period, it's in hot water." The passage of austerity measures guarantees that foreign lenders will provide Greece with the next tranche of its assistance package, which will allow it to pay its debts through August. German Chancellor Angela Merkel also hailed the legislation's approval as "really good news," while European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and European Council President Herman von Rompuy praised it as "a vital step back - from the very grave scenario of default." The measures approved yesterday will privatize approximately $72 billion in state assets, including ports, telecommunications, real estate, and energy. It also contains $1.4 billion in cuts to the defense sector over the next five years, and another $2.9 billion in cuts to the health sector. Uranium smuggling ring uncovered: Moldova arrested six people accused of trying to sell a type of uranium that could be used to construct a nuclear weapon.

Within the past year, whistleblower website WikiLeaks has released three of the most significant leaks of classified information in history: the Iraq War Logs, the Guantánamo Bay files and Cablegate. Since then the world has undoubtedly changed. Ambassadors have resigned amid scandals exposed by leaked cables; governments have ordered reviews of their computer security; and pro-democracy movements have swept across the Middle East and North Africa—in part fueled, some believe, by WikiLeaks revelations. This Saturday, July 2, Amy Goodman will moderate a conversation with WikiLeaks editor-in-chief Julian Assange and renowned Slovenian philosopher, Slavoj Žižek. Sponsored by the Frontline Club, the event will be broadcast from The Troxy theater in London. Democracy Now will broadcast a live stream of the discussion starting at 11am EDT (4PM GMT). In these times, with the Obama administration in office, it is greatly important to analyse the history of the United States. It is apparent to me that the Clinton Administration has many parallels with the current administration, thus this speech is becoming more and more relevant.

The Business of America is War - by Stephen Lendman
Noted trends analyst Gerald Celente said it, and it's true. In fact, America's business is war, more war, multiple wars, permanent wars, pillaging one nation after another for wealth, power, and dominance, while homeland needs go begging.
America never was and isn't now the "land of the free and home of the brave." In fact, it's become a "Let 'em eat cake" society.
Whether or not Marie Antoinette actually said it, France's 1789-99 revolution was very real, delivering guillotine justice, not promised "Liberte, Egalite, and Fraternite," a status now destroying what's left of American freedom, heading for the trash bin of history if not already there.
Earlier articles discussed Washington's wars against Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya and Yemen, as well as numerous proxy ones in Africa, Asia, Central and South America, and at home against Muslims, Latino immigrants, and working households.
