| By now you've heard about our success in New York City this past weekend. The Stand for Freedom march and rally shed much needed light on the unjustifiable attacks being waged on the voting rights of African American, Latino, elderly and young people across the country. And on Tuesday, Attorney General Eric Holder came out against these attacks in a speech in Texas. But it isn't enough, Stephanie. Five million people and counting are at risk of being disenfranchised as a result of strict new voting laws. We need your help to launch our next step in this fight: the nationwide Civic Participation Program. Your support of the NAACP will protect the rights of millions of voters in 2012. Will you join the campaign to protect our voting rights by becoming an NAACP member today? http://action.naacp.org/naacp-membership Here's the plan: the NAACP is instituting a 50-state, non-partisan electoral program, the only program of its kind. We're mobilizing tens of thousands of volunteers, hundreds of state and regional conference branches, and youth and college organizations to register new voters, educate voters on changes to voting requirements and help get out the vote through Election Day 2012. But we're especially concerned about Florida. New laws could make it much more difficult for significant portions of minority, young and elderly voters in Florida to vote next year. To combat this, we're deploying additional staff and resources to your critical state to reach out to and engage voters, and to help drive up turnout. The only thing we're missing is you. 2012 will be a landmark year. By joining the NAACP today you can secure your place in the fight for our voting rights. Your membership will give us the resources we need to successfully roll out our Civic Participation Program. You can make the difference in whether your family, friends and neighbors are able to cast their votes on November 6th. Help us fight back against attempts to suppress your right to vote. Become a member of the NAACP today. http://action.naacp.org/naacp-membership Thank you, Ben Benjamin Todd Jealous President & CEO NAACP |
