What does
Paul Ryan think about rape?
"The method
of conception doesn't change the definition of life." -Rep. Paul Ryan
He thinks
it's just another method of conception.
|
Mitt
Romney and Paul Ryan claim to be against the egregious statements made by Rep.
Todd Akin about "legitimate" rape.
But
their party's platform includes a call for a constitutional amendment banning
abortion in almost all cases -- leaving no exception for rape or
incest.
Will
you contribute right now to help NARAL Pro-Choice America defend women's rights
against this dangerous anti-choice agenda?
Stephanie,
we know that no matter what Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are saying, Rep. Akin's
views are the views of many anti-choice politicians. Consider that just last
year, Rep. Ryan co-sponsored a bill with Rep. Akin that -- in its original form
-- would have redefined rape. This bill attempted to limit coverage of abortion
care for rape survivors only to cases of "forcible" rape.
And
just last week, Rep. Ryan was asked if abortion should be legal if a woman was
raped -- and he said, "The method of conception doesn't change the definition of
life."
At
their convention, the Romney-Ryan ticket will try to distract Americans from the
War on Women. They'll talk about jobs and the economy. They'll pretend it's not
a priority to limit women's choices, freedom, and access to health care. But we
know their true agenda.
Stephanie,
there may be no consideration for the reproductive rights of women at the GOP
convention. But your immediate support will be put to work now to make sure the
right to make our own decisions are front and center in this election and
beyond.
The
Romney-Ryan ticket represents a heartless approach to the treatment of women's
health in this country. They represent an extremist party that has lost touch
with the values they used to hold and of the people they have pledged to
represent.
And
they represent everything we have been fighting against. This ticket and other
anti-choice candidates simply do not trust women to make decisions about their
own bodies and futures.
Can
I count on you to make a contribution right now to help us protect choices at
all levels? We must make sure our message is heard loud and clear above
theirs, and your help is crucial.
The
next few months are critical in our fight to win pro-choice victories at the
polls and continue with our critical grassroots and advocacy work. A Romney-Ryan
victory would mean disaster for women's rights. And we must raise our voice
above theirs.
Thanks
for all you do.
