Leader Says NO to Gender Violence “Today, I disassociate myself from anybody who
will use culture as a justification for violence against women. Men who
violate women are cowards.” With these words, His Royal Highness Rwot
David Onen Ocana, Paramount Chief of the Acholi people, announced a
campaign on Zero Tolerance to Gender-Based Violence in contribution to
the UN Secretary-General’s global UNiTE to End Violence against Women
campaign on 15 March 2010. He went on to emphasize the importance of
women’s full participation in the recovery programme for Northern
Uganda. A delegation from the Office of the Prime Minister,
representatives from UN Agencies, the donor community and civil society

Eva-Britt Svensson is a
member of the European Parliament, the chair of its Women’s Rights and
Gender Equality Committee and a survivor of domestic violence. She
played an instrumental role in securing the Parliament’s majority
endorsement of the Say NO campaign in 2009, followed by a parliamentary
resolution on eliminating violence against women and a call by the
European Council to improve legislation and support for survivors of
violence. In March 2010, Ms. Svensson chaired a parliamentary public
hearing on an EU-wide strategy to combat violence against women, and
joined a celebration of Say NO - UNiTE achievements at the UN Commission
on the Status of Women. She shared her reflections in a follow-up

Eva-Britt Svensson Eva-Britt Svensson es
miembro del Parlamento Europeo, la presidenta de la Comisión de
Derechos de la Mujer e Igualdad de Género y una sobreviviente de
violencia doméstica. Desempeñó un papel fundamental en la obtención del
aval de la mayoría del Parlamento a la campaña Di NO en 2009. A ello le
siguió una resolución parlamentaria sobre la eliminación de la violencia
contra las mujeres y un llamado del Consejo Europeo para mejorar la
legislación y el apoyo para las sobrevivientes de violencia. En marzo de
2010, la Sra. Svensson presidió una audiencia parlamentaria pública
sobre una estrategia europea contra la violencia de género y se sumó a
una celebración de los logros de la campaña Di NO - ÚNETE en la Comisión
de la ONU sobre la Condición Jurídica y Social de la Mujer. Compartió

Dirigeant dit NON à la violence sexiste « Aujourd’hui, je me dissocie de quiconque

Eva-Britt Svensson Eva-Britt Svensson est
membre du Parlement européen, Présidente du Comité des droits de la
femme et de l’égalité des sexes, et ancienne victime de la violence
domestique. Elle a joué un rôle déterminant pour assurer l’appui de la
majorité du Parlement à la campagne Dites NON en 2009, appui qui a été
suivi d’une résolution parlementaire sur l’élimination de la violence
contre les femmes et d’un appel lancé par le Conseil européen pour
améliorer la législation et appuyer les anciennes victimes de violences.
En mars 2010, Mme Svensson a présidé une audience parlementaire
publique sur une stratégie à l’échelle de l’Union européenne pour lutter
contre la violence contre les femmes, et s’est jointe à une célébration
des réalisations de Dites NON – Tous UNiS lors de la Commission de la
condition de la femme des Nations Unies. Elle nous a fait part de ses

Amnesty International USA Demands Justice for the Women of Atenco
In May 2006, more than 45 women were arrested without explanation in San Salvador Atenco, Mexico. Many were subjected to physical, psychological and sexual violence and held in prison for days. Call on representatives of the Mexican government to bring those responsible for the crimes to justice.

South African Schools Say NO to Trafficking of Women
During a soccer tournament, 400 representatives from schools and community-based organizations in Soweto, Johannesburg, shared the message “Say NO to trafficking of women. Say YES to women's rights.” The event aimed at supporting the Red Light Campaign 2010, a regional civil society initiative to prevent trafficking in women and children during the World Cup 2010.
